No CommentsJim Dinning is a corporate director. He is chair of the boards of two publicly traded companies: Russel Metals Inc. and Western Investment Company of Canada Ltd. Mr. Dinning serves on the board of Quirk Logic, a technology business headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. He is a trustee of the Killam Trusts.
His past board service includes serving as chair of Western Financial Group Inc., Liquor Stores N.A. Ltd. and Export Development Canada; he was a director of Parkland Fuel Corporation, Finning International Inc. and Shaw Communications Inc. Prior to his corporate governance career, Mr. Dinning served 11 years as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and served in three cabinet positions, notably as Provincial Treasurer from 1992 to 1997. From 1997 to 2004, he was executive vice-president of TransAlta Corp. He is past chancellor and now Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Calgary. In 2015, Mr. Dinning was named a Member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He earned a B.Comm and a Master of Public Administration at Queen’s University in the 1970s.

Ken Woolner has over 30 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry and currently is President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Velvet Energy Ltd., a private Calgary-based exploration and production company. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Brompton SI Fund Management Limited. From February 2006 to June 2011 Mr. Woolner served as a corporate director. From April 2005 to February 2006 he was Executive Chairman of White Fire Energy Ltd., a publicly traded oil and gas company operating in Western Canada, and a trustee of Sequoia Oil & Gas Trust. Mr. Woolner founded and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lightning Energy Ltd. from December 2001 to April 2005, when it merged with Argo Energy Ltd. to create Sequoia Oil & Gas Trust and White Fire Energy Ltd.
Prior to that Mr. Woolner was President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Velvet Exploration Ltd., a publicly traded oil and natural gas exploration and production company, from April 1997 to July 2001, when it was acquired by El Paso Oil & Gas Inc. At that time he became a director of El Paso Oil and Gas Canada Inc., serving until May 2002. Before founding Velvet, Mr. Woolner was a Senior Vice President of Morrison Petroleums Ltd. from 1991 to 1997.

Marilyn Schonberner is a Corporate Director with over thirty-five years of international experience in the Energy and Mining sectors. She retired in 2016 as the Chief Financial Officer of Nexen Energy ULC. During her 21-year career with Nexen, she held various executive roles with responsibility for financial and risk management, audit, human resources, strategic planning and budgeting, supply chain, and information services.

Stephen McLennan leads the newly-created Total Fund Management department, which integrates Ontario Teachers’ portfolio construction approach with our treasury and funding capabilities. He was previously responsible for managing Ontario Teachers’ allocation to Natural Resources, including direct private assets such as timberland, oil and gas and mining and agriculture.
Stephen joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2003 and has since held positions of increasing responsibility in both capital markets and private asset related groups. Before joining Ontario Teachers’, Stephen spent over three years with Merrill Lynch’s investment banking team in Calgary and prior to that, two years with the Canadian operations of Archer Daniels Midland.
Stephen holds a Master of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto, an MBA from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. He is also a CFA charterholder and has ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Dale Burgess leads the Infrastructure and Natural Resources department and is responsible for overseeing infrastructure acquisitions and asset management globally. He was previously head of the Infrastructure & Natural Resources team for Latin America where he oversaw portfolio companies as well as business development and origination in target countries across the LATAM region.
Dale joined Ontario Teachers’ in 1996 and has deep experience in the utilities, power and transportation sectors. He worked on the acquisition of Cubico Sustainable Investments and Autopista Arco Norte and currently serves on the boards of AndesCan, Ontario Airports Investments Ltd., and Heritage Royalty. Dale holds a BA (Accounting) from the University of Waterloo. He is a Chartered Accountant, a CFA Charterholder and a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Christopher Metrakos leads Ontario Teachers’ Natural Resources team, which is focused on building a diversified portfolio across agriculture, energy, mining, and timberland. He joined the organization in 2014 and previously focused on the energy sector. Prior to joining Ontario Teachers’ Chris spent approximately ten years with a leading unregulated energy company, investing in energy and retail customer businesses across North America and internationally. He started his professional career in corporate finance, and previously held roles at two global investment banking firms in Toronto and London.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts, with a major in Economics, from McGill University and is a CFA charterholder. He also has ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

James Sikora is responsible for investments in the energy and mining sectors within the Natural Resources group at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Prior to joining the group in January 2019, James was part of the Global Active Equities team where he managed Ontario Teachers’ public equities resource exposure. He was also involved in the Plan’s acquisition of a working interest in the Weyburn oil field in 2012.
James joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2004 after spending two years in equity research at National Bank Financial. James earned his MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta. He is a CFA charterholder.

James Armstrong has more than 20 years’ experience in the North American and international oil and gas industry. Prior to his appointment of President and CEO he held the position of Vice President, Land since 2017. In that role he was responsible for land and commercial activities related to Heritage Royalty’s assets primarily situated in western Canada, as well as the Permian and Appalachian Basins in the United States. Mr. Armstrong holds an MBA from Queen’s University, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary. James Thompson has more than 20 years’ experience in the energy industry. Mr. Thompson joined Heritage in 2016. He was previously employed as a Senior Energy Analyst (Public and Private Equity) with the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Quebec.
Before his move to Montreal in 2012 he held multiple roles with EnCana focused on North American and international basins and spanning technical, operational and corporate roles in engineering, geology, strategic planning, and corporate acquisitions and divestitures.
